Qatari donates QR6.5m for orphan house in Somalia

DOHA: Sheikh Thani Bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) has laid the foundation stone for a QR6.5m orphan house in Somalia, fully funded by a donation from a Qatari woman.

The project is being developed in an area of 15,000 square metres in Benadir Province of Mogadishu, Capital of Somalia.

It is expected to be completed within 14 months.

It is financed by a donation by a Qatari woman to cover the cost of construction and furnishing the facility and operate it for a year.

The facility will accommodate 500 orphan children — girls and boys.

They will be provided with complete services, including shelter, education, health and entertainment. It also includes a school.

“Orphan houses are needed in Somalia to accommodate the growing number of orphan children due to natural disasters and wars,” said Abdul Nassir bin Ibrahim Fakhro, Deputy Head of the Ambassadors of the Mercy Unit, RAF.

“The project will help develop the Somali community and provide a complete services to the beneficiaries,” he added.

A delegation led by Fakhroo, comprising representatives from RAF and its strategic partner Zamzam Foundation participated in the groundbreaking ceremony of the project last week.
